I am tired of people.
People suck . I do not like them, Sam I Am, I do not like the se douchebags, man. There was a brief period at the beginning of the pandemic when people were nice. They seemed to get it. But now, p eople and customers are behaving worse than ever, with a sense of entitlement and disrespect for those working to help them that I have never seen. For this reason and so many others pertaining to human behavior and additional stress in this day and age , I am tired. There is much to expound , but it boils down to just being tired, of everything. Stress has built to dangerous levels for so many of us. My riding buddy has been suffering medically because of it, with almost heart-attack like symptoms despite total health otherwise . Riding is quite literally his doctor’s prescription, so I’m happy and thankful to help pace him . Bicycles have been our saving grace through all this, as two wheeled stress relief, mind time, and self-improvement of the best sort. Enjoy a few photos from a well-earned vista last night, a couple hours of pure exertion, introspection, and peace .
There’s a guy on Instagram and YouTube called @safabrian. Look up his descent videos, they’re nuts. I asked myself, what would @safabrian do? Then I sent it, best I could with 38c gravel tires, rim brakes, crappy surface, and fatboi inertia. Best descent I’ve ever felt on this bike, amazing feeling.
Bleep boop bzzz blork. No trespassing here, no sir.
So close to the mythical Green Flash, but not quite
Bitchin’ post-ride spotting with great backdrop
So fuck ‘em. Ride bikes, haul ass, seek those last moments of dying light, and in those 10 seconds or less, be free. Have a good one, Oppo.

I agree about the stress prescription. It took me a while but now I’m starting to feel a bit better mentally after riding. I think I had to get into good enough shape and/ or my brain is just now getting used to the endorphins.
I’m dialing it a bit back
. Scared myself silly
on my 1981
rim brake Raleigh
coming down that hill.
Turns were unexpectedly tight at 40mph.
Looked like a hundred foot dropoff if I went over the guardrail.
(prompted me to get a new
bike with disc brakes
)
And just recovered from a mountain bike
concussion.
I lost 4 hours of memory but I’m told I was going fast on
a
smooth, straight, easy
trail.
dumpsterfire!

I think your tag sums it up perfectly.
People have definitely left almost all of the niceness from the beginning and are now in the fuck everyone else stance.
I need to ride more, both on motorcycle and bicycle. It’ll help.
Beautiful pics too , thanks for sharing.

A-fuckin-men.
My job hangs on people being responsible members of civilized society. 25% aren’t....or are incapable of thinking about more than themselves. So my job is in jeopardy.
If I’m not there, then they die without taking me with them.

So glad you’re finding your legs again, even after a crash. The great thing about riding, as with any exercise, is that the more you do, the better you get! Hard to motivate at first, but with every ride getting stronger it’s easier and easier to get on the bike.
My old bike here still has cantilever rim brakes, admittedly pretty spooky on downhills like this. I’m jealous of my buddy’s discs in that case for sure!
Sorry about the
crash, glad you’re in one piece after that and hopefully
in good spirits! I empathize because i
underwent the
same some years back, landed the mountain bike on my head on an easy trail, ended up
concussed and blew out a disc, requiri
ng surgery. Took years to find motivation and riding fitness again
amidst other life events as well,
but it’s back with a vengeance and I couldn’t be more stoked. Hope you find the same, keep those pedals turning.

Hope you find the time on two wheels, regardless of their power source. It’s the best therapy I can think of.
On the tag, all my dadbrain could think of was a song in Frozen, “Rein deers are better than people,” and what are bikes but two wheeled reindeer ? ;)

All those newfangled frippy carbon bikes look the same, orange aluminum is always in style.

That’s coming down from Pinewood Reservoir isn’t it? I can definitely see someone getting into trouble there.

yeah,
any
bright color. Anything other than black. But preferably not gray, silver, or
white.

Yes. I would’ve liked to get orange for my new road bike. They just don’t offer them. (Because people don’t buy them.)
The bike I wanted gave me two
choices:
silver and matte green.

Yike! about your crash! I now believe it’s the easy trails that are dangerous. They look safe so you don’t pay enough attention and they’re easy so you go FAST.
Vs the technical trails which are clearly dangerous and I’m very aware and I’m only going 2 mph if I fall.
That’s admirable that you’re back after your crash. It really is annoying how difficult things are when you’re out of shape.
I didn’t get on the road for two weeks - a friend got me back riding. I haven’t gotten back on the mtn bike yet.

I’m surprised you identified it! Obviously you’re a local. I now seem to recall that from prior posts?
yeah, that was my first time up there. Those corners did not seem very tight on the way up at 4mph.

Hopefully I don’t run into you, I always try and give you guys more than enough room :P. If you ever see a little blue car not give enough room feel free to yell at me.

I tried
to make a pun. Failed. I’m amazed at how good most drivers are out here (compared with Milwaukee). A few like doing
the close passes and I assume they
just moved here from CA, WI, IL. I don’t
yell at them
but I do wave thanks at the ones who move entirely into the oncoming lane to pass.
oh hey, while I’ve got you on the line. I’ve done Lyons to Ward, Lyons to Allenspark, Loveland to Estes. I’m probably not strong enough to go
up
Left Hand Canyon, we
just come
down LHC
from Ward
. Looking at the gravel
roads around Gold Hill next from some routes uploaded to RideWithGPS
. Any other similar rides you like near Boulder
?

Was trying to make a joke too :P
The ones you listed are about the only ones that are completely paved IIRC. Fourmile and Sunshine canyon are both fun roads and pretty popular with cyclist from what I’ve seen. They just turn to gravel for a couple/several miles before they get to a main road. Maybe look into Sugarloaf rd up to Nederland?
You could try hitting Jamestown up LHC. It’s paved to the town and a little past but turns to dirt for two miles or so before you get to the Peak to Peak. Although t here’s also a pretty steep paved section kinda like going to Pinewood res. I think that’s all I can think of near boulder.
Buckhorn rd and Stove Prairie up to Poudre Canyon might be worth looking into later too.

yah, we’
ve gone down on the dirt road to Jamestown and LHC
from Peak-to-Peak. I’ll look into the Fourmile, Sunshine, Sugarloaf. Thanks.
I did Buckhorn/Stove Prairie in January this year. Warm at
Masonville, flipping cold
at the top of Rist
. Did Rist from the e
ast as well. Planning to do a Buckhorn/Rist loop sometime. Those are close to me in Loveland.
My riding buddy is going to do Old Fall River Road and down Trail Ridge Road on Monday. If I go, it’ll be five people, may
be too crowded for me
, so not sure
.

Beautiful photos.
I’m still confident that there are more good people than douchebags in the world. The douchebags are just louder, and more visible, sadly.
